<<How long (in time and length) do our hair and nails grow after we die? >>

When I was a kid we stopped at a cave in Arizona I believe. On display they had a body that had mummified in the cave. It had quite long hair and nails. The explanation was that the hair and nails were still growing.

It is not likely that hair and nails grow after death. The problem is that death is not instantaneous, but occurs at slightly different times for different systems. Obviously, no new cells are going to be created after death (since cell birth is the essence of life). The impression that hair and nails continue to grow after death results, I have heard, from the shrinking of human tissue as it is loses blood and other vital liquids. More of the hair obtrudes from the follicles, and more of the nail from the cuticle. The hair doesn't actually grow, it just sticks out more than during life.
