Network Appliance says economy affecting, not EMC
February 08, 2001 5:04:00 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Sales by computer storage maker Network Appliance have been slowed by the economy, but not by pressure with competitors, including industry behemoth EMC Corp. (EMC)., the chief executive said after releasing fiscal third quarter results on Thursday.

Dan Warmenhoven told Reuters in an interview the company expected sales in the next two quarters to rise sequentially at the "bottom half" of the 10-15 percent range the company projected last quarter.

He saw sales in the last quarter bringing revenue to $1.1 billion for fiscal 2001 and growth next year of 55-60 percent to about $1.75 billion. Gross margin would continue to deteriorate and earnings per share would be 41 cents for fiscal 2001 and rise next year to 55-60 cents, he added.

Jeff went through the numbers - only bad news was 70 days of AR, which is out of range.

Dan's up. Encouraged by penetration of database market and close rate of 80%. Competition isn't hurting them.

He cited wins at Oracle, DreamWorks, Jelly Belly, and Air New Zealand.

Jeff back up confiming they are holding future guidance.

<<Let's try to post interesting comments real time for folks who couldn't get on the cc>>

Much appreciated, cuf. I'm still in the work mode, and will enjoy the read later.

And, Norm, I think I'll be joining you with that glass of wine tonight.

Glad to be LTB&H, and not worry about the intraday noise.
