Barry,

P4 is not the first PC to use RDRAM. i820/RDRAM was out for about 6 months before any systems shipped in volume.

You have lost your perspective.

Perspective? (edit) scumbria beat me by a nanosecond. <g>
DRDRAM PC's have been out for over a year.

Barry now you have two that can't read... Scumbria and POLLY!

Barry you did say... "P4 PC's have been available only since 11/20/00.", right ?

First, Scumbria makes a statement that has nothing to do with your statement, and POLLY chimes in saying the same thing.

I don't understand why they can't answer a direct question? Same with Scumbria's reply to pomp!

Barry,

Don't confuse Scumbria by quoting facts -- he lives in Scumbria-time in Scumbria-world.

Actually, AMD launched their 760 chipset on Oct. 30th (and DIMMs were already available). MUEI didn't start shipping for a couple of weeks. OTOH, when Intel launched the 820, systems were available immediately. So measured from the official availability date of the chipset, it's been 3 months and 1 week...

* AMD introduces AMD-760(tm) chipset, enabling the world's first commercially available PC platform supporting next-generation Double Date Rate (DDR) memory technology

* Initial systems expected to debut from micronpc.com in the U.S. and NEC Computers International in Europe for holiday buying season

TOKYO, JAPAN -- At press conferences in Tokyo, Taipei and Paris, AMD today is introducing the AMD-760(tm) chipset, enabling the world's first commercially available PC computing platform supporting next-generation Double Data Rate (DDR) memory technology.

DDR memory is an evolutionary new technology that increases peak data throughput to the processor by up to 100 percent compared to its predecessor, Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM), at comparable costs to SDRAM solutions. AMD's DDR platform solution, which includes the award-winning AMD Athlon processor, provides the foundation to continue AMD's leadership position in supplying high-performance solutions for the performance PC space.

Systems Based on DDR Memory Platform Available Through Retail and Direct Channels

Systems featuring the AMD Athlon processor and DDR memory technology are immediately available for order from micronpc.com in the U.S. and from NEC Computers International in Europe. Systems are expected to be available in November

After 3 months, there are still no additional design wins. By every measure I've ever seen this is a failure as a launch.
