When Itanium gets production legs?

No one knows... not even their largest customers.

Not in March, not in April... not in Q1 2001.
But wait, latest rumors in December 2000 was production
Q1 2001... not now.

"Going back to '95, the expectation within the company was that the chip would be out in 1998," said Gwennap, previously the publisher of the Microprocessor Report. "The public schedule was that the chip would be out by the end of 2000. They've blown that. It's definitely way behind schedule."

Real rough when the top Intel prognosticator starts
pointing out the chinks. Guess it is hard to do a song
and dance for 2 or 3 years... But Linley, you said:

After several slips, Itanium achieved first silicon in August 1999; prototypes are functioning well and are currently available. First production shipments will be in 2H00 at clock speeds of up to 800 MHz

Prototypes are functioning well! Won't be long now...
production second half 2000 , and boy oh boy, wait until
you see the performance!

And on and on and on it goes . . .
