Pleeze... give us a break. I suppose the "idiots" at
Los Alamos and Sandia and Celera enjoy throwing good
money away when they could have spent a lot less on IA64
and got higher performance? Drop them an email and
become a national hero.

The bandwidth of a Pentium IV is higher than Itanium
and if you think bandwidth isn't a dominating consideration for a *majority* of HPC applications, spend
