mQ,

<< Verizon is a spectrum hog [which we already knew from the UK auction, Mannessmann acquisition etc]. They [Vodafone] have got a good grip on Globalstar which has worldwide spectrum >>

Chris Gent knows what spectrum is worth. He plans to be around in the next decade. Many won't.

When I hear a company say, "we have enough spectrum to last the rest of the decade", I shudder. You have vision or you don't have vision.

<< I think Globalstar won't be going away any time soon. Vodafone will want to keep a grip on such vast spectrum which they hold at so little cost. >>

They do. They will.

The game is over when someone has all the right toys.

Spectrum is not all terrestrial.

If you you utilize the most efficiency AND control geography and spectrum ... you win.

WAP (CDMA or GSM) leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. Iridium left a bad taste in ones mouth. GPRS will leave a bad taste in ones mouth. Capital dries up.

WAP 2.0, BREW, 1xRTT will help restore confidence.

Really good point, Maurice. However, I think the reason Verizon was willing to pay so much for spectrum in New York is that they will provide very elaborate wireless data access in perhaps the best market for that sort of thing.
