If you read my post, you will realize that was exactly my point. I'm reasonably wealthy and I would rather see the money spent to pay off the debt.

I guess you are starting to get the point. When the money is not taken from you by the government, you decide where you would rather see the money spent. Just write the check to the Federal Debt repayment account. Your children will be grateful to you. (Not)
