Indian Army Recovers Bank Money

BHACHAU, India (AP) - Army troops digging through the rubble of what was a branch of the state-owned bank found 200 million rupees in this quake-destroyed town in western India, an officer said Friday.

Using shovels and crowbars, the troops led by Maj. J. S. Sodhi from the engineer regiment toiled six hours Thursday to retrieve documents, ledger books and the money, worth about $4.3 million.

``This is a great relief for those who have accounts with this branch,'' said Capt. Subash Rana, adding that bank officials were present during the recovery.

Eight other bank vaults have been recovered
