"Conclusion: RDRAM is Enabling Leadership Performance
As Workstation applications mature, they will increasingly incorporate more features and
operate on larger data sets. These trends coupled with increases in platform interface link
technologies, create more demand on the memory subsystem. Workstation systems utilizing
RDRAM today demonstrate an uncontested lead over the competition, as evidenced by the
marketshare majority in the workstation market, driven by compelling performance. RDRAM
plays a significant role in establishing that leadership, providing 3.2GB/s memory bandwidth
across 2 Rambus Channels at high efficiency under workstation multitasking loads. As future
platforms based on the Intel Pentium 4 and Intel i850 are released into the workstation market,
the performance bar will once again be raised with a system that balances the processor front
side bus speed with the capabilities of the memory subsystem. Time will also drive today's
workstation technology into mainstream desktop PCs. RDRAM's scalability through increases
in clock frequency and data rate will enable Rambus memory subsystems to scale with
workstation memory needs going forward."
