Q: If I have a friend's Netcom login name and login password, can I configure Free Agent to use Netcom's usenet service from a non-Netcom service provider? I ask because my service provider (in the Middle East) blocks any usenet groups from their service.

hi tc

as i noted, norton lit up when i scanned the unzipped killcmos program on my desktop. the resulting dialog said my pc was infected and advised me of steps to take to remove the trojan horse. the scan summary showed 14 files in the compressed program, two of which were infected. (i wasn't concerned by any of this, as i was following good procedure in scanning before opening.)

norton recommended the repair option, which i tried, and it could not complete. it then recommended quarantine, which as you probably know, isolates the infected files in their own little area. at this point the user can run liveupdates for the latest virus definitions, the thinking being that norton couldn't repair the file because defs weren't current. quarantine also serves as a safe area from which the infected files can be submitted to sarc (symantec antivirus research center) for analysis.

since i have never gone down that road, i tried submitting killcmos to sarc and a dialog popped up saying the submission was rejected because symantec already knows about killcmos.

next recommended step was to delete the two files. i did.

i think that the litmus test here is simple. knowing what i know now, and assuming i had a need for the function that killcmos claims to perform, would i unzip that file on my hard drive?
