BTW, I think I know a place in San Diego where Alpine could get some financing for this type of project.
----------

My read of ComDev's article states that Alpine will purchase the operating system from ComDev.

"Once the trials are successfully completed, Alpine PCS plans to purchase the system from COM DEV."

Alpine provides the spectrum, etc.and ComDev provides the system turnkey. ComDev may well be using the cash infusion it earlier received from that San Diego company to do so...

"The company currently holds 1900 MHz spectrum licenses in over 40 counties throughout California, Michigan and Massachusetts including 30 MHz blocks of spectrum in the Fresno, Madera, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties of California."

Agree with Kent that this should prove adequate to showcase prospects to ISPs (would beat the pants off of my cable modem - not to mention DSL or copper connections). Q first had to build cdma networks on its own to showcase commercial viability... This is an appropriate first step with what most of us perceive as a technology with great potential...

Kent,

<< I know a place in San Diego where Alpine could get some financing for this type of project. If I recall correctly, there's 2 billion lying around. >>

Let us be prudent with the way we spend OUR money. <g>

Seriously, a lot of the DE's had a lot of promblems getting financing after C Block when money dried up, and it was even tougher after D/E/F. Nice if any can make it, particularly after this time.

Do you know if these guys are actually in operation yet?

Alpine PCS, Inc.
201 Calle Cesar Chavez
Suite 103
Santa Barbara, CA 93103

They spent $40 million for 3 original C Block licenses in Santa Barbara-Santa Maria, CA, San Luis Obispo, CA, and Hyannis, MA totaling around 3 million POPs. They added 9 additional licenses in E/F Block (some upper MI) and just added another C Block (Mt Pleasant, MI) in the reauction.
