Freddy knows a LOT about this stuff and can run circles around most people. THe problem with his post, which is, as always, well-written and wonderfully readable, is that he really doesn't deal with anything in the book. He has merely deflected to argue that science is never ultimately FINAL, something most of us probably agree with. Since neither he nor I has read the book, to dismiss it out of hand and argue that it is invalid without ever examining it based on the reasons he has listed, would be intellectually close-minded.

The discoveries of these two men add to the general body of knowledge in the field of Old Testament accuracy and whether they are ultimately proved right or wrong remains to be seen. I don't think that anyone believes that every finding is an irrevocable truth, except the Bible literalists re: their own Book, but I DO think that it's silly to not consider what men trained and experienced in a field, who spend YEARS studying these things, have to say. SOme of the findings about Bibilcal historical accuracy, according to the article, apparently have been disproven and accepted as such already by the academic community. (PRobably nihil could present specifics.)

It would make sense that the Bible is a mix of fact and fiction, oral tradition, historical events that may or may not reflect the exact times. It seems to me that it weakens your arguments if you begin denying the evidence before even considering it.
