It was rhetorical anyway. Yes tax cuts are good, obviously because even the Democrats supports them now as well as Greenie. So I will not enter into a deep discussion of the Economic reasons. I want to look at the fairness issue, since this is what the Democrats ( and others ) always allude to.OK, let us be fair then. Let's say you put a flat tax of 10%. You got 2 guys. One makes $500,000 the other $50,000. In a 10% tax rate A pays $50,000 and B pays $5,000. So clearly, A pays TEN TIMES the amount of tax that B pays . Is that fair? Well, it would be fair if we assumed that both people are working equally hard to make their income , wouldn't it? I would go as far as to say that it is not fair. Why should A pay 10 times more when he is working as hard as B? Coming home late at night, working weekends etc? But any way, let us say that it is fair: A pays 10 times what B pays. I suppose the only way that THAT would be UNFAIR is if we were to assume that A did not work for his income. That he was just lucky and got an inheritance or he has a money tree in the bac. Then, perhaps it is unfair I suppose. So now let us say we give each a 1% tax cut ( c/o GWBush ). So A gets back 1% of $50,000, equals $5,000 and B gets back 1% of $5,000 equals $500. So that A, gets back 10 times as much as B. Is that fair? And if it is not fair, then, why is it fair to pay 10 times more but it is unfair to get 10 times back? I am trying hard to understand the Democratic rationale. I am just curious to understand where the Democrats, Daschle , etc, get their numbers for fairness. That is all? Foe example, why not take Bill Gates 95% of his earnings? He will still have millions and millions left. More than any man could need. Is that fair? I am sorry for all these questions; just my natural medical curiosity in trying to understand how the human mind works, TA
