Mr Palau slower response this time. By the way anything I say here is thrown out as a response and understand it in that way. It is food for thought and if you have some good counterpoints let me know. I hope that this board is not just to spout our convictions but to put them out there and let people respond and in many cases correct faulty ideas.

1- Why should the federal government, rather than state and local governments, pay to maintain our highways?
The highway system that connects one state to the next and allows for the efficient movement of goods from one state to another is in our national interest. Local roads and toll-roads come under a different jurisdiction
2-What interest does someone in Iowa have in funding the US Coast Guard?
In examining that question look at these other questions you asked me.
“Do you live in a City that has federally-funded mass transit, and if so, have you ever used it? “
“Have you ever lived in an area that received federal emergency assistance?”
“Do you get any of your energy or water from a federally funded project? “
So I could pose to you what interest does someone in Iowa have in funding mass transit in San Francisco? My view on this is that the constitution actually delineates the powers of the federal government. Of course the powers of the states have been drastically reduced and surrendered to Washington. California is a wealthy state and public transit is greatly needed. We probably have the highest per capita income in the country and the amount of tax dollars that we send to Washington probably outweigh what comes back here. My take is that the higher taxes should be paid to the state you live in and thus the productive people of a state can best address their local needs and concerns. The tax dollars that go to Washington should be for defense and other national concerns. If we as a nation agree to pay an amount in taxes to fund emergency relief that eventually gets paid back that is fine. The problem we have is that the federal government gets most of the tax dollars and then whoever barks the loudest gets money. The problem with this is that those states that continue to implement failed policies are continually bailed out by other states. The energy crisis here in California is a good example of this. Whether it is the environmental extremists or shortsighted politicians or greedy electric companies the problem is our making.

3-Have any of your immediate family members suffered from cancer or AIDS?
My wife is a diabetic and there are many diabetics in this country but they don't scream as loud as the aids lobby. I naturally resent the promotion of one illness as being more worthy than another especially when in many cases that illness is self-induced. A lot of the treatments for AIDS have been cash cows for the medical providers with questionable results to the patients. The AIDS disease has become a very profitable business. Cancer is also a very profitable industry and we can see that the tax dollars spent go to the same groups repeatedly and their success rate is not that great. If we are to have a funding of cancer and Aids etc than I would like to see the decision of who gets funded returned to the universities and medical establishment rather than the politically connected groups.
4-Do you support immediately bringing home the soldiers in Bosnia and Korea (and for that matter other Germany and other foreign locales?)
Yes bring them home and let the Europeans take care of themselves. By the way this reminds me of a great hypocrisy of the liberals. They state they are against government sponsored violence but it was ok for the government to bomb innocent civilians in Bosnia and kill and terrorize children. Its was ok to kill a child in Bosnia but don’t kill a violent piece of trash who has brutally killed people in this country. That to me is blatant hypocrisy.
