Just heard per CNBC that the gas sale emergency order did expire this past Wed. without renewal. Predicting gas shortage as early as next week for N. Cali if cold snap moves in.

On the power generation side of the issue a federal judge is doing the dirty work for the Bush Admin. so they can keep up the illusion of TL...what a joke.

not so...there's no need really for the state to pay back its debt - it's fine as long as the debt doesn't grow faster than the economy. generally budget surpluses are a drag on the economy.

long term there is of course the thorny issue of social security being unable to fulfill its obligations by 2020-2030 i believe. but it's unrealistic to expect TODAY's politicians to care about that.
