I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. WHY?? Because I've studied history and given the matter a lot of thought over the years and decided that's the kind of society I want to live in. I think it makes the most sense. It's rational and logical and pleasant and supports those things in us that make us human. You explained it well in your initial post to me after your hiatus. Jorj also in his post about individuality and autonomy. I couldn't have said that better. That's why. And WHY should I accede to it?? Because you want it, too. If we join forces, we have power. WHY should I care about your opinion?? If we are to have power to effectuate the rights we want, we need a consensus on them so people will sign on to the social contract. My opinion and everyone else's counts toward a consensus. On what basis do you CLAIM these rights?? On the basis that it's good for me and, IMO, society at large. And our posterity.
