One thing they might do is clean up their brochure mailing lists. I receive two identical business solutions catalogs and two identical home systems catalogs, for a total of four, every time they do a mailing. I lost count of how many express service code numbers they've assigned and re-assigned me. And I only have 5 Dell computers (2 of which are ancient). Imagine how many catalogs and account numbers a larger business might have.

scott....downsizing...

the ge situation that you refer to is much different then a more homogenous company as a dell. ge downsized by cutting or selling business groups that were no longer desirable. ge at one time was the worlds largest producer of electrical equipment, they have sold off most of these groups in an attempt to move to what they consider less labor intense businesses.

my concern with the dell layoff rumors, is that if they are the low cost producer, the work force should be very lean...layoffs would be more indicative not of streamlining but lack of product demand to support efficiency....
