The original discussion was whether or not Christians support sharing their wealth with the government. I was just pointing out that according to the Bible, the answer should be "yes". Now as to whether it is the best solution or not, that is different, and is a secular issue.

I am not sure if this is an endorsement of the government run welfare state. It may be, since before it's collapse, Rome was probably the closest to welfare state that humanity reached anytime before 20th century.

Actually it was another example of the separation of church and state. Jesus was saying render onto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, and render unto God what is his.

The secular affairs of state have nothing to do with the affairs of God.

BTW Jesus was a democrat.
