People murder because they like to kill. They murder because they hate an individual, or having something to gain by their death. They murder because they don't like the kind of people that individual represents to them. All of these are particular and don't have ramifications beyond the people involved. (including family of the victom, etc.)

And people murder because they hate a certain "group" and that group "needs to be put back in their place." In that case, the person murdered is simply a pawn used to make a point to an entire group. The first crime is against the victom. The second crime is against those who the murderer would intimidate into a behavior, or out of one, by said murder.
