Database software is becoming a commodity. Most IBM servers now come with DB2 pre-installed (sort of like it's free if you buy the server). I believe Sun and Oracle were looking into the same type of deal (or maybe are already doing this). As the ecomony slows, price wars cometh. Since a company like IBM can provide the total solution, they can do things like throw in DB2 for free to stimulate hardware sales. Oracle doesn't have this type of power since they aren't in control of any hardware. I also think as the economy slows, many companies will go with a WinTel solution because it's cheap, instead of buying the high priced solution that comes with Oracle and whoever provides the hardware. JMHO
