In virus I have auto protect, manual scans, and email protection checked. In auto protect I have start auto protect when windows starts up and scan all files and show the auto protect icon in the tray. In email protection I have 2 emails programs checked. In manual scans I have memory, master boot records, boot records checked. I also have checked scan program files and enable smartscan technology and scan within compressed files.

In recycle bin (norton protection tab) I have enable protection and purge after 7 days checked. On global tab I have use one setting for all drives and display delete confirmation dialog box checked. On the recycle bin tab i have recently deleted files checked and show norton protection status checked.

I have now turned off the norton protection feature in the recycle bin and turned off the load antivirus on startup. The protect feature on these 2 items is removed and I can shut it down smoothly.
