To be more clear, I am for the death penalty, but feel it is unequally applied. If that is not addressed, I have a hard time supporting it in practice. And I find no satisfaction in it. By supporting the death penalty, I think we are in essence assisting in the death of another. Whatever the reason, we have contributed to a death. There is no satisfaction in that. Perhaps, in some cases, a feeling that what was done was needed to protect the community.

If the ACLU is currently against the death penalty because they see it as being used in a racist fashion, but would not be against it if that were changed, I see no irony, nor inconcisentcy, in their position.
