SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Ultratech Stepper, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTEK, news, msgs), a leading supplier of photolithography systems used to manufacture semiconductors, microsystems devices and thin film heads (TFH) for disk drives, today announced a follow-on order of several of the Spectrum family of wafer steppers to Megic Corp. These systems will be placed in Megic's foundry, located in Hsinchu, Taiwan. This order reinforces Ultratech's continued penetration of the Asia-Pacific market -- specifically in the growing Taiwanese region -- and solidifies its position as a leading provider of lithography tools for highly specialized flip-chip (bump) applications.

"Megic is a trendsetter in the new arena of application-specific foundries," said Arthur W. Zafiropoulo, Ultratech's chairman and CEO. "With its focus on flip-chip applications, Ultratech has established itself as a pioneer in the industry-wide effort to produce ever-smaller semiconductor devices. Not only does this order strengthen Ultratech's growing presence in Taiwan, it also puts our Saturn Spectrum 3e precisely where this advanced tool belongs -- in a high-volume manufacturing environment where cost, yield and reliability are of the utmost importance. We believe that our partnership with Megic positions both of us to take advantage of the strong growth predicted for the flip-chip market segment," added Zafiropoulo.
