Tom- Microsoft got whacked this week by the opinion that the PC market was mature. If that's the case then the majority of new users will not be using either Explorer or Navigator in their present forms. Applications developers will have to spend their time breaking down information into digestible parts rather than making it pretty for one particular desktop browser.

A short time ago I read that headhunters were paying a huge premium for handheld programming experience. I expect that will be true for voice programming too in the near future.

Programmers pay is a pretty good future indicator. Right now I'd think that Visual Basic scale is about where IBM main frame 3270 scale was a few years ago. I doubt that .NET will ever make the leap as the next great thing if it tied just to the Windows/Explorer environment.
