Really, it was just a shoot-from-the-hip remark, based only on the fact that the market always has a statistically low likelihood of moving in any one direction too far, too long (or for that matter, standing still too long). So the commonest feature of any market is breaks in the major trend, in the form of corrections, consolidations, bases, countertrends, bull and bear traps, and so forth.

I don't follow the VIX routinely, but I will look at other market internals and sentiment indicators over the weekend, and see if I can see any coherent picture emerging.

I would like to know in more detail what your spin on the VIX is, and what you think it signifies going forward.

I also noticed that the VIX is not moving much at all, even after the week we have had. I am still waiting on it to go near 35. I will buy big if that happens on Monday or Tuesday.
