For my nines I use my finger calculator.
I hold my two hands out in front of me, my ten fingers flat. I count from the left. Say for 6x9 the sixth finger is my right thumb. I bend it down. So there are five fingers up on the left of the gap, and four on the right, and the answer is 54. Works for 1x9 through 10x9 if you count "no fingers" as a zero.
