Do you really on the bank's statements, then? We've picked up a number of bank errors in checking statements over the years.

Yeah, there's a pretty good chance there may have been mistakes in mine, too. But when I consider the total dollar value of the errors, the possibility that the errors could be in my favor, and the amount of my life, or my husband's, that is consumed by that exercise for 25 years, I think I'm getting a good deal. Surely you and St. Bill could put that time to better use. No?

Really? I think you need a new bank! Not counting my errors (too numerous to mention), I don't think my bank statement has ever been wrong.

I plead guilty to that practice. I decided the errors I found divided by the amount of time I spent was less than minimum wage. Much less. I check to make sure the major deposits are there and major debits. But how hard am I going to look for a $10 error?

I used to spend hours to make it balance it to the penny. Every month or two, I'd be off. I'd just add (or subtract the error) into a category called "unknown balance error" and keep going. Finally, I decided not to even do that.
