Hi Jay,

Power companies have been buying oil and gas companies to secure gas reserves for their projects.

I asked a friend of mine who's background is nuclear energy about the current "crisis". He tells me flat out that nuclear will not make a comeback in the US. Nuclear has the potential to generate energy, all costs in, at $15/Mwh. In December, spot prices peaked at $1,500/Mwh in California and $5,000 in Washington state. To say that the utility holding companies have any interest whatsoever in the commonweal is preposterous. They see a choke point in the power and gas markets and are going for the jugular. The term of art is "market power". They got and they are using it. Too bad about that recession and all the businesses destroyed by these wicked games.....
