a consenus date when the current recesion started.

There are also problems of definition. If you use "two quarters of negative GDP", then we've yet to start. OTOH, Chambers (CSCO) says orders fell precipitously in mid- December. Sorry, I just don't know of any consenus date .

The recession has not started, officially. Even unofficially, sectors other than tech are doing well. For example, energy, retail, housing. I think there is a good chance that the first quarter of 2001 will be the first recession quarter. So if this is a short two quarter recession, the bottom should be in around end of March, beginning of April.
