That was a dog and pony show for the faithful. Not that it is a trivial thing, although I have my doubts about Embedded NT, but this particular event was strictly PR. For example, Symbol got an award for Embedded Designer of the Year for a software package they didn't write, using a WinCE port that they contracted out. I dunno if they actual designed the handheld in question, but...

Embedded is very important, and handhelds of various stripes are going to be more and more common. AMD participates somewhat, the SFF Athlon and follow on lower power chips will help. I personally would like to see a StrongArm or XScale product from them, but there is not a lot of sign of that. Their Elan line is due for a major refresh.

Now an interesting thing is a patent that was recently awarded to AMD for silicon-germanium transistors. Now they could be interested in doing RF stuff, or maybe they have some other use for low-power, gigahertz class transistors...
