TigerPaw--here's where I disagree with you--there is no "fix," at least not in the way that I believe you mean the word. Had Gore received 1000 more votes in FL, he would be in the WH now, in my view. And, frankly, had his legal team made moves to simply count the overvotes (instead of solely concentrating on the undervotes), I believe he would have won, too. And, finally, I believe he would have won had his legal team moved to recount every county in the state, instead of just 4 or 5 Democratic stronghold counties.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the abysmal US Supreme Court decision, but this thing could easily have gone the other way; there was no "fix," at least not in my view....

the Republicans came perilously close to missing the mark The Republicans would not have allowed an outcome with Gore as victor. If the Supreme Court could not stop it, and the state legislature could not stop it, they would have called on the National Guard. The fix was in.
