Great post SXB! I totally agree with you on almost everything. Some columnist said Ariba should have bought Manu instead of agile for the reasons you state. I don't know... Agile is a good company too, and their product is more difficult to knock off than manu.

I can see cmrc being acquired by Sap one day.

The really interesting thing in enterprise software from my point of view now is the ERP replacement issue. I have always felt erp's are on a 10-yr cycle. Last time they were replaced when client/server + SQL came in. But really orcl/sap are the same products they were pre-internet. I think somebody can create a new web-ized component based ERP with a true internet architecture and really clean up. I think Bowstreet might be trying to do that with all their VC. The buzzword is business-web.
