duly noted, of course. and i'm just having a little good-natured fun with ed. at least i hope it is being perceived as such, because it is intended that way.

"willing to take the calculated risk, compared to the constant annoyance of keeping AV software functional, yet out of my way."

and therein lies the crux of the matter, imo. since you've stated it in those terms, i can totally say i find no such annoyance in staying current with av programs, nor in having them 'always on top', so to speak. i like their presence, it is a reminder to me that i'm reasonably safe from this proliferation of very real cyber harm.

"I wouldn't discourage anyone else from installing AV software"

good for you. i feel the same way, in that i do not wish to 'argue a case' with someone like you or ed who feels like doing without av software. in fact, i'm of the opinion that your anti-antivirus presence here on the cl thread is most beneficial, in that you serve as a good counterbalance to nuts like me who strive to obtain the latest virus definition updates the moment they become available!

i'll keep my fingers crossed for you as well, catlady.

:)
