Didn't mean to offend anyone. I love chili, too. Just don't like the Terlingua shindig. I suppose that except for two or three dozen eccentric full time residents and the requisite scorpions and rattlesnakes, everyone at Terlingua is a tourist during the chili cookoff.

Anyone who likes the Big Bend as much as I do is (probably) alright with most Texans. vbg.

I also like the small Texas towns out in the boonies. As you surely know, many have been depopulated as the great Texas urban centers have grown. My favorite is Archer City, where The Last Picture Show was filmed. Has an old renovated cattlemen's hotel, The Spur, which is great. Larry McMurtry lives there, and operates a bunch of bookstores. More bookstores per capita than anywhere in the world. And good ones, too. Nah, not good. Great.

Met him once on a trip to Archer City. Nice, nice man. I highly recommend a weekend at Archer City.
