A similar mess on SI a few years ago motivated me to create a fictitious on-line identity. I didn't need to experience the grief of dealing with nut-cases first-hand to become aware of the danger. Damage is far easier prevented than corrected. Practice safe posting: Wear a condom while on-line.

So, your co-worker would be doing nothing wrong by giving your address to the motorcycle gang?

BTW, California hasn't given out names and addresses for license plate numbers for years, and I believe that most other states have followed. Unpleasant stalking incidents.
