I'm looking at a bear-shaped bottle of honey at this moment, except that the honey is mostly gone. A friend recently got it from his beekeeper brother in Mission, TX (in the aforementioned Valley). I've heard claims that eating honey made in one's local area can be beneficial in treating allergies. Don't know if there's any scientific evidence for that, but I do know that if I chugged a bottle of it in a half hour, my blood sugar probably would spike to a coma level. Ah to be young again with the endocrine system able to handle whatever we consume.

I don't know how he could swim like that the night before! Ammo got eight hours sleep. Oatmeal and whole wheat toast with jelly (no butter), lots of liquids. They can eat power bars and bagels and jelly beans during the meet, but mostly they don;t eat a lot, they drink a lot of gatorade and water.
His diet will have a lot of carbs going into the finals. Dan is on the Atkins diet-- all protein, no carbs. Cooking around here is fun. I should put on five pounds or so because I eat everything.
