Hi Scott,

My guess is that their the NY and SBC retail ops they are referring to are founded on the resale-of-local-LEC-facilities model. This doesn't mean that they will abandon their last mile aspirations entirely in those regions, rather, only in those situations where they are reselling the incumbent LEC's facilities.

T still has cable telephony and wireless to cultivate. Which, if you believe all of the press on wireless lately, will, to a great extent, displace wireline anyway. This is a prospect that I'm sure they are aware of and leveraging.

I view the NYNEX <sic> and SBC shots they took as last parting attempts in those markets to shake some boots. It probably wont work. And they don't care.

And, in taking those shots, what do they have to lose? Perhaps the worst thing that could happen is for them to get their way, and be forced into a more "lucrative" last mile experience, while users continue to migrate to wireless and cable alternatives. Alternatives over wireless and MSO facilities, BTW, which in many cases are owned by then (T).
