At this point the US3 is so messed up that I disbelieve anything Sun says about it until serious shipments are happening. Zander & McNealy are using the market-share issue to distract from the botch job. Who cares.

Yup, the smoke and mirrors campaign.

What's interesting is that when the economy was grinding to a halt in Q4, IBM was paying OT to build servers in December at quarter end [this is common knowledge, I'm not saying anything I shouldn't. If there's add in the local paper that they need workers for manufacturing in December, I consider it common knowledge.] and revenue was actually a surprise up for them. With E10000 memory error debacle, the tide may be starting to turn now that the USIII is missing in action. These big purchases take time and planning, so I wouldn't think you'd see an immediate impact.

As to Softie, I wouldn't be long even though I see their outlook somewhat positive. One thing you must consider is that IT budgets are likely to be slashed in a slowing economy. This sure makes the WinTel solution more attractive than the alternatives. After being in the field for 1 1/2 years, I've seen it all by management trying to save a buck when it comes to decisions like these. You'd be dumb to go for the cheap WinTel solution in my opinion, but that doesn't mean management in a tightening economy will feel the same way. JMHO

You're just cranky.

Sun had one delay. It was a rather *large delay, but it
took place a *year ago. Steady Eddie said April '01 and the
line is rolled out. He said that in the summer. If the line
isn't rolled out by May day, well then you're right.
But Qwiksand, you keep talking about delays and botched
execution and Sun has yet to move the date they set 6 months
ago. I don't get it.
