> SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--Australian gold mines produced a total 8.55 million ounces in calendar 2000, down 1.3% from 8.66 million ounces in 1999, the Australian Gold Council said Monday.

Interesting. GFMS shows 1998 production peaking at 10.3moz and 9.6moz for 1999, almost a 1 million ounce difference. The AGC numbers may be gold mines only, while GFMS might be total mine production including byproduct. The 1.3% drop sounds right.

> Normandy Mining Ltd. (A.NDY) remained Australia's largest gold producer in the December quarter with its Superpit operation producing 182,364 ounces compared with 194,869 ounces in the previous quarter. It produced 715,164 ounces of gold for the whole of 2000.

Looks like Superpit number only. NDY did 2.074moz in 2000 vs. 1.891moz in 1999, up 9.7%
