Letter from ISIR President Dr. Charlie Q. Yang isir.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Investing strategies have two ends. One end is the type of emotional and momentum trading on a daily or even minute basis; the other end is the type of long term strategies for investors who are putting their retirement money into the market.

Which way is better???

From gambling, speculating, to investing, the key differentiator is a discipline.

That is why more and more institutional investors have started to look at systematic investing concept. However, dollar cost averaging has been viewed by many as the only viable systematic investing strategy today. That can not be true because there are better strategies than dollar cost averaging in many cases.

Do you think today's financial institutions have done a good job in educating individual investors? Let us just look at two examples:

In Investor Education section, Franklin Templeton states that "investing at regular intervals may be one of the best ways to take advantage of market downturns and benefit from stock and bond market rallies". How could investors be convinced to put their retirement money into something MAY BE the best?
In Stong's Learning Center, the mutual fund firm try to say "you may reduce your average cost per share over time with dollar cost averaging". Again, what does it mean by MAY REDUCE? If you are an investor, can you believe this type of strategy is good enough for your long term investment? NO!!!
If you are from any of these financial institutions, please do not be upset by the above examples. Much more has to be understood in order to tell which strategy is the best in what scenario. Therefore, I founded a non-profit organization, the Institute for Systematic Investing Research in Washington D.C., based on my many years research in engineering benchmark performance analysis and statistics modeling. ISIR's goal is to help you gain a competitive edge by adding new systematic investing products beyond dollar cost averaging!

I wish you share the same commitment for improving investing values and senses to the benefit of every investor in the world. ISIR welcomes everyone to submit opinions and research results on systematic investing beyond dollar cost averaging. ISIR also plans to sponsor systematic investing research projects in the future.

Together, let us understand better which investing strategies are more convincing and profitable, and more importantly, in what conditions and how these conditions can be identified practically.

Please send any comments to info@isir.com. Thank you.

Charlie Q. Yang, Ph.D., President of ISIR
