The only thing hampering the P4 at this point is the lack of SSE/SSE2 optimized software.

We know that recompiling speeds up certain types of applications on P4. The assumption that it will speed up a broad range of apps relative to the competition, has not been proven.

AMD sells their chips cheaper to break into the market. Just like Toyota and Honda did years ago.

All this optimised software stuff never seems to pan out.
MMX itself was a mediocre success at best...just like 3DNOW...
The main thing P4 has going for it is Mhz...
