What your opinion on pursuing a consumer digital video tape recorder? Seems like people are used to tapes - could be a cheap way to store high-quality digital video.

"Even though their quality is acknowledged by the highest professional bodies, Nagra Audio products are experiencing fierce competition from mass-market products, the quality of which has risen constantly. In order to boost this sector, the Kudelski Group decided in 1997 to diversify its offering by introducing a range of high-end equipment aimed at the audiophile community. "

Looks like someone felt they could make some money selling high-end consumer electronics!

Hal, I had a Nikko Amp that I bought in about 1976 for about 300 dollars. In 1992, a transformer on the phone pole
blew out, and 8 of the houses here got hit with a 240 volt charge for about an hour. It was quite a light show. Fire department was here. The floursent lights were smoking. The refrig and microwave motors got fried. And quite a bit
of my studio equipment. the insurance company tried to force me to accept a 250 dollar amp to replace the old NIkko. But the circuit city salesman was hip, and pointed out to the insurance company that all of the companies started using cheaper transistors in the 80s, and that they newer equipment just didn't really give you the full audio signal of old. So, he said I'd require a Harmon Karden amp to replace the old Nikko. The insurance company shelled out 1200 bucks for the unit..
Sounds pretty good. Unfortunately, there's not much new music worth listening to on it....
