I can see my Uncle (Bob) has great control with his posts. You should be like me Bob, let him have it <g>

I am sure SI Admin (Jeff)....I am not sure if he deserves the ( ) just yet, but I was saying I think Jeff would cut you some slack if you did break the rules, or should I say bend the rules.

Reading this thread has enabled me to get to know a number of SI participants better. Unfortunately, the most useful thing I've learned about them is that I should avoid any contact with them at all costs.

My husband was raised on a poultry farm. When a bird gets injured, other birds attack, exploiting the unfortunate bird's distress. I can see this behaviour being played out on this thread. My fellow participants on SI can be disgusting.

Fortunately, the majority of the SI community are decent folk who are just trying to communicate their thoughts with others who share common interests. When the heat of the debate gets juices flowing and inappropriate words flying, external restraint must be applied. At these times, when control is most needed, it is also the least desired, and the person experiencing the correction often feels victimized. Over the years, you have become their target.

Now that you have experienced first-hand some of the misfortune that has befallen SI, its parent, its competitors, tech companies, and the general market too, those who have compiled an inventory of resentment are taking advantage of this brief opportunity, and are releasing some of their poison on this thread. I hope that your days as a Free Agent are few, and that you'll soon, if not already, pick a new direction and happily pursue a rewarding career. I wish you the best future.

Cheers, PW.

Well, here's a disturbing twist on mass layoffs. Let's hope it doesn't start a trend:

EMC lays off hundreds of workers

news.cnet.com

While the article doesn't go into detail, reading between the lines is pretty disturbing. It looks like perhaps they are trying to get around the "mass layoff" law by claiming that this is just part of regular job reviews.

A company has to give 2 months notice to employees who are being layed-off, or else pay 2 months severence pay in lieu of that. (I thought that this was just a California law, but somebody else here said that they thought that this is a federal law.)

Now, I'm a contracter, so this doesn't affect me - nobody owns me nuthin' if they decide they don't want me any more. But I still find this REALLY disturbing...
