"Intel must successfully roll out a replacement for its IA-32 architecture in order to remain an industry leader," says report author Gordon Haff.

Well that about sums up analysts for me. Never mind a discussion of the pros and cons of the Itanium architecture, simply state that if Intel is to remain an industry leader Itanium must be a success, therefore it will be.

Anyone else see a flaw in the logic?

And the prediction of 42% is laughable. Would that be 42% plus or minus 30% perhaps?

Itanium will never be more than a prototype. The follow-on, McKinley, has been delayed and may never see the light of day. Intel's only hope is to produce an x86-64 to compete with Sledgehammer.
