People would point the finger at politicians and the politicians would blame the oil companies...
There would be open season on environmentalists.

The environmentalists have been warning for years that oil is a non renewable resource.

Nonetheless you are probably right, the environmentalists will get blamed because the ones who over consume are childlike, and children tend to blame others for their mistakes.
