Yeah... I'm also kind of torn on whether to support an ABM system. While we certainly have the right and obligation to defend ourselves from nukes flying across the north pole, it also serves as a nice shield for our own preemptive strike against our rivals, thus greatly altering the balance of power.

So from the perspective of the Chinese and Russians, ABM defense is a first strike weapon in their eyes.

What I'm more concerned with is an Anti-Meteor defense system.

And an interesting note on this. If you recall, they had that NEAR satellite land on Eros today, although no one had expected to use it for such a purpose and it wasn't configured for landing.

Well.. if you can land a satellite on a moving, twirling asteroid, then you can land something that is capable of blasting such an asteroid or deflecting it from a collision path with earth.
