What a really wonderful thing for you to do.. that must mean so much. It must validate her life a bit. I wonder how many people reach an age where they wonder whom they've touched, or what they affected in some way. On his death bed, my father asked me if he'd been a good father. I was still too young to know the depth of that question and wish I could go back and have a do-over on that moment. I think I just sort of blew it off,"sure, you were great".

I used to go and see my high school Latin teacher when I went home to Lexington; she was the best teacher I ever had, but it wasn't just her teaching. She was from the "old school", a graduate of a two year teaching program, and she loved learning. I am amazed now when I look back on her grasp of Virgil and Homer. Every year, we made a great showing at the state classics tournament, and my Latin SATs were the highest score I had in anything. But most importantly, she taught us to love language. I can still remember this lightbulb going off the very first day when I learned the word agricola=farmer, and all that is derived from it.
Although my brother who was a year behind me but was in the same class because our school was so small, hated the class and cheated off me all the time.
