Hueyone, thanks for the details on FRB nominations.

The details do not, however, have any affect on my earlier post. I said "who would you guess has the authority and political power to replace the FRB?"

The President has the authority to appoint a replacement for Alan Greenspan when his term ends ... but lacks the power of confirmation. The Senate has the power to confirm a replacement but not to appoint someone of their own choosing. And, there are only two Texans in the Senate.

Considering the fact that the economy has done very well in the past several years, neither GWB nor the Senate are likely to risk ousting the most popular Fed Chairmain in all history. IMHO, Alan Greenspan will remain in office for so long as he wishes. Considering the wrinkle count on his face, It is likely that the day Mr. G leaves office will have more to do with his health than any other factor.

If Alan Greenspan was a regular on this thread, I would be pleased to wish him well.
