Many people are assuming that there will a replacement by the time we run out of oil. You and everyone else may be right, but good planning dictates that you use a finite resource such as oil as if there is no replacement and there never will be.

There all ready are alternatives to oil, they just are too expensive to use now. As oil become more scarce and its price goes up the alternatives will make more economic sense even if they don't become cheaper or more environmentally friendly (and with new technologies both things will probably happen).
