Sloppy "logic" indeed! I can just see you now in an emergency room OR.... Nurse: "Doctor YYB, we shouldn't cease life support efforts, the patient still has brain wave activity! He could survive!" Dr.Breeze: " Even rats have brain waves, we kill them all the time! Pull the plug and let him die." I guess if we follow your "self awareness" or "sentient" logic we can quit worrying about quite a number of seriously injured and disabled people?
